S.N. Goenka-the Vipassana guru; after a 10-day course, IF YOU STICK IT OUT,
IF you breathe, have an open mind, heart,
and be ready to self-evaluate, there will be a beginning
of a calm, successful, happy, peaceful and a brand new you.
INITIALLY, THE TEAHINGS SEEMED STRANGE, WEIRD,
ALMOST HARD TO COMPREHEND;
I was so done, and was planning my escape; by this time,
I figured this course isn’t for everyone.
This far-fetched notion of human kindness, equality for all,
was outside of the world I lived in;
I was used to back-biting, bitterness, hate, rage, anger, racism, oppression,
Inequality, the United States not being kind to the darker ones.
Racial peace, out with ego;
no I, no me and no my; BUT caring for others,
wishing them happiness, joy, and EQUANIMITY can truly be obtained;
I was beginning to see how America could change; more self-reflective, more honest,
accepting the past things for how it is; no guilt, no condemnation, no shame.
Goenka, a master, an accepting spirit;
he teaches not to care so much about your higher education or riches, but achieving inner peace, mastery of your mind to deal with addictions, cravings, negativity, hopelessness, that all can be accomplished with a calm mind, a peaceful mind, aspirations, sensations, kindness, caring for others,
BUT it all begins with the limited area around the nose; importance is focused on your nostril breathing,
and don’t hold your breath.
Regardless of color, creed, religion, wealth, young, old, boy or girl; he taught that putting others needs after we take care of our households, was the ULTIMATE GOAL.
10 days of no talking, no communication, no phones;
Being around nature, getting to know yourself, being honest about who you are, meditating and taking full deep breaths; getting rid of the selfishness, it’s all about me attitude, is the true place one should strive to be.
